This image inspired me because of its caption: Which countries Karma is returning when the polar ice caps finally melt. Its saying that a country has contributed to global warming a lot and with that done they are getting karma back by the polar ice caps melting and it floods into their country---pure KARMA! It gives sort of a warning I really like it and it got to me.
Thanks,
Vivian.

Meeting with mentor.
Today we had yet another meeting with our amazing mentor Ms.Naini. The meeting was filled with excitement and ideas,I enjoyed it very much.We mainly discussed action plans and clarified the understanding of the central idea, lines of inquiry and the summative assessment. We discussed that we would write up reflections on the process of the lines of inquiry-how we started, what we changed and what our final decisions are.We will be sure to post these reflections once we have done them.We came up with an idea to interview our junior school principal Mr Les Wilkins about Mount Kilimanjaro which he has climbed twice and if he could get us an expert on Ice who we could interview. Our action plan for this week and the beginning of the next are : Getting our lines of inquiry finalized and approved, Each of us group members has to post two blog posts or maybe even more, Filling in our PYP exhibition handbook, Finding dramatic images on mans interaction with Ice Caps and Reflecting on our journey with lines of inquiry and lastly what we always have to do- a reflection in our exhibition journal on todays meeting.
That was our meeting- As I said it was great fun and I cannot wait for next weeks one.
Got to go finish homework now--- Bye

Today's meeting was very interesting. I can clearly see the progress you have made and it is evident that you have reflected upon your lines of inquiry and come up with great lines which are not statement or questions with simplistic answers. Lines of inquiry should be exciting enough to make you want to know more about a topic.
I have attached a link here http://diigo.com/0gba4 where I have highlighted some research skills. There is a lot of information out there on the world wide web! So you would need to
a) keep the central idea in mind
b) skim and scan
in order to retrieve salient information.
I would also like us make sure we stick to the next weeks plan which is:
a) Every one must blog at least twice this week. Remember we are recording the process of our learning. We best learn from mistakes and what better where than to record the development of your lines of inquiry.
b)Caleb to make a Glogster(for more about Glogster check out my website (place cursor on blank spot) nainiatyourdoorstep.weebly.com) about global warming using facts/ statistics/ data
c) Interview Mr Wilkins and find out more about the snow caps on mount Kilimanjaro, Mt Kenya. Find referrals from him of experts who study ice (Caleb calls them Ice men!)
d)Best part: What action are we going to take that could inform people and also that is sustainable:
walk around school observing how people are using electricity in their classrooms. Creating posters fro the junior and senior school advising them how to reduce their carbon footprints.
Write a letter to the principals of junior and senior school requesting them to turn off the AC's for an hour in the library (morning time)

What is the link between global warming and malaria in Kenya?
Title change
The group members thought "Ice breaker" was a more subtle title than "Cracked" and hence the change!

introduction of myself Megan
hi I am megan, I go to aga khan academy mombasa. we are working on our exhibition this year. our title is "cracked", I like the title because it is like the ice is melting and the ice is also CRACKING away - it is a really great title.the melting of ice is very serious to ME and thinking of the animals that die or lose their homes. the ice melting is also flooding the earth (the raising of sea levels).

Saskia Macharia
Hi my name is Saskia Macharia and I am 11 years old I was born on 25th May 1999 and I am so excited for exhibition. I have a sister and a brother but they are not on this blog and their names are Jessica and Robin. Exhibition is a big step for me because it clarifies for me to go the senior school. I have many ideas for exhibition and i can not wait for what our judges will tell us about our presentation. I hope that this blog will impact people around the world to stop global warming because it is becoming a real issue. I just want as a year 6 that our group can do something to stop it once and for all because in other exhibitions they talk but nothing ever happens, but i hope that our group can make a change.

Hi group members,
We have a request from a surprise guest :)
Hello! I love your blog showing your work for the PYP exhibition. You have selected a very important topic that is well suited to the ideas in Sharing the Planet. Do you mind if I share this with my students? I think they could learn a lot about chronicling their own learning journey as we too prepare for our Exhibition.
Hope all is well with you and the other students at AKA,M. Best of luck for your exhibition. When is it taking place?
Mrs. Fenton
I would like you to respond to this mail please.

Intro to myself Caleb Cameron
HI! My name is Caleb Cameron and I am part of the exhibition group 'CRACKED'. I joined this group because of my love for cold weather and polar bears those two things make me very happy and i really want to save both of them but sadly I can't do that by myself because I'm only one boy so i am aiming to make people aware of the ice caps and to make those two things last longer.

Meeting!
Well today the group of CRACKED met at my house to do some work and brainstorm with ideas. It was pretty fun but we also learnt a lot and came up with really good presentation ideas. Also we made two posters, one with our lines of inquiry written on them and one with did you know facts. It was very fun and for the first time I had my whole group over at once which was pretty cool and I find it great that Caleb doesn't mind being the only boy in the group, I find it very mature and like it + he is also a great addition to the group 'Thank you Caleb'.
Here are our lines of inquiry:
Why is Global Warming happening?
What Will happen to the world if Global Warming continues?
How can we make people aware of Global Warming?
Well I have got to go revise for an exam tomorrow so I'll get going now and I hope to blog as soon as we have our next meeting.
Thanks
Vivian

Students present
Caleb, Vivian, Kate, Megan, Saskia
Today we discussed suitable inquiry lines that would excite us and stimulate inquiry.
We came up with very good ones we thought. I hope to see the students put this on the blog themselves rather than me doing it here.
They are still getting used to the idea of the blog and need to learn to organize their work.
From today's meeting, the qualities of each student was emerging. The inquirer, the listener, the risk taker, the leader, the creative one....hmmm... we have a motley group indeed!
I have taken a video to record the conversation taking place. It will give us a fairly rough idea of the students involved.

Introducing Myself -- Vivian
My name is Vivian Mung'aro and I am one of the group members of the Ice Caps exhibition group 'Cracked'.I am ten years old and go to the Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa, it is a great school.I am now in my 6th year at the school, and in the 6th grade at Aga Khan we have the junior school exhibition which this blog is actually all about.Choosing topics and titles for this exhibition was a very long process but in the end we are all now in good groups and we all have different topics. My group and I are doing Ice Caps and out title is Cracked. My group memebers are Katie White, Megan White, Saskia Macharia and Caleb Cameron, I really like the group I have chosen to be in.Why I chose the topic Ice Caps in the first place is because that ceratain enviroment of the cold atttracts me and I am very interested to learn about it, also the animals in the enviroment are lovely and I am very eager to learn about them.We have had our second mentor meeting today and it was interesting as usual. It was really fun and even though we have not done much I have really enjoyed starting the exhibition.I have a great mentor Ms Naini Singh I really like her and she is why we have this blog and I would like to thank her for that and everything else she has done.Well I will have to go and finish my other school homework so I better get going.
Bye and Thanks.
